How to Use and FAQ

Welcome to A Year of Ancient Literature!

Morning time doesn't have to (and shouldn't) end just because your kids get older!

I know I certainly didn't want to stop it with my own kids.

The teen years are the best for wonderful discussion times and making sure that your kids have the solid grounding that you'll want them to have before they leave home.

That's why I've created Morning Time Teens™ !

The second in the series will be one that I'm doing with my own teens in middle and high school (ages 13, 15, and 17) this next school year: A Year of Ancient Literature.

This course will provide you with a plan to follow to read works of historical fiction set in ancient times within one school year.

It includes the schedule, discussion questions, and other activities to do alongside your read-aloud time.

FAQ

What is morning time?

Morning time is when a homeschool family gathers all the kids together to do group activities such as read-alouds, projects, memorization, music, art, poetry tea time, presentations for each other, etc. before the kids head off to do independent work. It's also known as circle time, couch time, morning basket time, and by other names.

What is Morning Time Teens™ ?

Since most morning time lesson plans focus mainly on the elementary ages, I wanted to create something meatier for my teenagers to make their last years in our homeschool meaningful. Many more Morning Time Teens™ plans will be created in coming years.

Morning Time Teens ™ are morning time plans for middle and high schoolers in the homeschool

What do I need to buy in addition to this course?

You can actually do the whole course without buying another thing!

You'll need the books or audiobooks for the books included in this plan, but those will be really easy to find in the library or you can borrow from friends.

I'll share other resources that are optional.

How long should my morning time with my teens be each morning?

You should plan for about an hour each day, 5 days a week, 36 weeks for the school year. This will allow for 30-45 minutes of reading aloud the book (or listening to the audiobook) and companion activities.

What are some of the companion activities?

I have four categories of companion activities to accompany each book.

  • Art
  • Music
  • Writing
  • Tea Time or Celebration recipes on Literature Discussion days

Will my student get high school credit with this course?

If you read and do discussions for all the books, your student can get a half-credit high school English credit. Add in Grammar (such as Grammar Galaxy Nova, SuperNova, or Fast Grammar; or IEW's Fix-It Grammar) and/or Writing (such as from IEW or Compass Classroom) to get a full high school English credit.

Do you grade my student?

No, you as the homeschool parent will give the grade your student deserves for the course.

What if I don't have time to make the recipe for the Discussion Day?

Don't let that stop you! Pick up a box of Dunkin' Munchkins, a bag of grapes, or a package of cookies. The goal is to make it different from the "everyday" so it will be more fun for your teens!
