Year 3: Traditional Lessons and Carols

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was first celebrated at King's College, Cambridge on Christmas Eve, 1918. The lessons included here in this course are an adaptation for kids that can be done in 15 minutes per lesson and include reading the "lesson" (from Scripture) and listening to and/or singing the Christmas songs and carols. Additionally, there is a piece of famous artwork included with every lesson related to the Scripture that can be used for Picture Study!

"Music of Christmas" has been such a fun addition to our Christmas homeschooling this year! We snuggle up on the couch in the evenings and use our smart tv to make it easier for all 11 of us to see the videos. It has been so neat to learn the history behind our favorite Christmas tunes. We are definitely making sweet holiday memories!

The "Music of Christmas" course is a great resource for changing things up as we homeschool through the holidays. Instead of our regular music course, we've had the opportunity to learn some fun information about our favorite Christmas carols. And it's great that the whole family can do it together!

Course Curriculum

My family is loving the "Music of Christmas" course! The lessons are short and no prep work is necessary, so it is the perfect way to expose my children to a variety of quality Christmas music (and the history behind it!) during this especially hectic time of year. And because the selections are from various writers, countries, and time periods, it is easy to coordinate our music studies with history, geography, or cultural Christmas lessons. This has been an excellent addition to our holiday homeschool studies this year!”

~ Jane M., No Greater Joy Homeschool

My kids are really enjoying the "Music of Christmas" course. My kids find the background information on the carols interesting. I like how there are a couple variations of the songs to listen to. Such a great resource for the holiday season.
