Your Instructor
Gena Mayo is a homeschooling mom of 8 who has been teaching music in various forms for 30 years. She has a Bachelors degree in Music Education and a Masters degree in Vocal Pedagogy (teaching voice lessons). It has been her joy to teach elementary and junior high choir, high school voice classes, private voice lessons for teens through adults, early childhood music and movement classes (babies through preschool), elementary general music, and music appreciation for elementary through high school. But, her favorite music teaching experience has been as musical director for stage musicals such as Seussical, Shrek, Singing in the Rain, Newsies, and Beauty and the Beast. It is Gena's desire to help all homeschoolers easily include music in their homeschools!
I wish I could have used your courses with our children as we did school at home. We are a music loving family and it would have been a gift to them to broaden their experiences with your lessons. However, the youngest of 6 is a freshman in college this year - off on his own musical adventures.
When I came across your courses, I invested in the first one as a resource to use with my piano students. I expect to continue to do that from time to time. I have enjoyed going through them for my own education and enjoyment.
Probably the most significant use is one I still anticipate. We will become grandparents this spring, and my thoughts have drifted toward what kinds of things I want to have available for the next generation. The simplicity of what you provide, the easy access to the music via the Internet, and the number of lessons you provide in a course all speak to my heart. Your musical choices take me outside the normal music I find on my own. It helps me explore with a little less investment of time.
